Though weather.com says that, despite the iminent hurricane, today will remain sunny and clear, I briefly glimpsed the sky beyond the arch at Washington Square Park a little while ago, and it looked only dark and gloomy. Today, like many, I will go through the preparations for hurricane Irene and keep my fingers crossed that it will be far less destructive than expected.
